You set the goals. We support you to reach them. As a trauma-informed charity, people are at the heart of what we do.
Whether your goal is to reduce or stop completely, we walk with you every step of the way, whatever your outcome is.
You are welcome to bring a support person to your appointment, and we also welcome pets in our pet area and kept on a lead.
We work with families, communities, and other services to provide joined-up care, always signposting you.
Our purpose is to provide shame-sensitive, trauma-informed support to people using drugs and alcohol, recognising their experiences with dignity, respect, and compassion.
We aim to reduce harm, challenge stigma, and empower individuals to heal and make choices that align with their needs and goals. We believe that connection and belonging are fundamental to recovery and wellbeing, ensuring that no one faces their challenges alone.
Our mission is to deliver support to individuals affected by substance use, creating safe spaces for healing, recovery and connection to thrive.
We recognise that substance use is a global issue shaped by trauma, inequality, and systemic factors, and we work to challenge stigma and reduce harm as both an independent charity and in collaboration with partners.
We envision a world where people who use drugs and alcohol are treated with dignity, not shame; where stigma is replaced with understanding; and where everyone has access to the compassionate support they need to heal, thrive, and make empowered choices.
Within our organisation, we strive to build a strong, collaborative team that upholds these values in our work, our partnerships, and how we care for one another. We strive to build a culture where every staff member feels a sense of belonging, support, and shared purpose.
We endeavour to provide non-judgmental, shame-sensitive support to people using drugs and alcohol offering person-centred care.
We work in partnership with individuals, communities, and organisations to create a network of support.
We strive for innovative and effective approaches to harm prevention, stigma reduction, and trauma informed care.
We recognise and honour the dignity, autonomy, and lived experiences of people who use substances, as well as our staff
& partners.
We respond to substance use
and trauma with kindness, understanding, and a commitment to reducing shame.
For nearly 40 years, Harbour has supported people in Plymouth who are experiencing challenges with drugs or alcohol. We are a local, independent charity offering non-judgmental, trauma-informed support that meets people where they are. Harbour supports individuals living in the Plymouth City Council area who are registered with a local GP. If you’re unsure whether you’re within our boundary give us a call on 01752 434343.
We are a dedicated team of practitioners, nurses, peer mentors, volunteers, support workers, and specialist staff who bring their experience and compassion to everything they do.
At every level of our organisation, we believe in connection, collaboration and care. Meet the rest of the team here:
Harbour is a proud part of the Plymouth Alliance – a group of organisations working together to provide coordinated support to people with complex needs in the city. As part of this Alliance, we ensure that people receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
